The very rare round Roman quiver
Lot 2520
Postumus, Romano-Gallic Emperor, 260-269. Antoninianus (Billon, 22 mm, 4.43 g, 1 h), Treveri, early to mid 268. IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Postumus to right. Rev. P M TR P VIIII COS IIII P P Bow, club and Roman quiver. AGK (corr.) 65a and note. Cunetio 2448. Elmer 561. RIC V.4, 397. Very rare. Struck from worn dies, otherwise, fine.

This type comes with two kinds of quivers: the square Scythian and, as seen here, the round Roman. Surprisingly, the latter is much rarer, which may suggest that the Scythian quiver had largely displaced the Roman one by the 3rd century.
